Yet, he denied a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was against a young boy.

The defendant was kept in jail before a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, outlined the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he managed.

The defendant played a "sweet game" with the children, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and ask them to consume candy "rapidly".

She told the court the defendant had played this game with the young males "repeatedly", and children had previously fallen ill the following morning.

She stated the man had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had concerns in July 2025.

The prosecutor continued: "Recently" his stepson had concerns about the situation, justifiably.

"They decided to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

Mrs Prior KC stated materials including lubricant, Vaseline and syringes were found, and his family member notified the police about his suspicions.

She said Ruben went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six youngsters that time - that Saturday - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"The police had not gone out by that stage," she continued.

The police watchdog, the investigative body, previously told that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.

Mrs Prior explained the children were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the stepson contacted the police again.

She stated the defendant then played the "candy game" in a area of five minors.
