The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Change Follows Lukewarm Feedback
The new appointee assumes the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster early showing last fall.
On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure updated team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had revealed the need for a clearer direction.
Ismailer expressed that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a refreshed approach, aiming to satisfy player expectations.
A Pattern of Strategic Hires
This announcement follows a comparable move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the entire text from Ismailer's announcement:
Hello Everyone—
I understand you all just wrapped up your town hall - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a update, I stated the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative designers we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to continue.”
Given your hard work and adaptability, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was enlightening. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had work to do. It revealed the necessity for a more distinct identity.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You took the criticism to consideration and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed vision - one that’s ready to achieve its ambition to our audience.
The trust in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the incredible progress you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the latest Director of 31st Union. After a period of talks, he officially joins us on the specified date.
Ben’s leadership and expertise in the PVP shooter genre is extensive, having spent the recent years developing and managing some of the most popular franchises in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in welcoming Ben soon. We are all eager to keep seeing the development of the game in the time to come.
David
Experience of the New Head
The appointee currently holds the position of executive producer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. Brinkman earlier was employed at Treyarch and Activision in multiple production roles on the iconic franchise series, and, prior to that, had periods at other industry leaders.
Game Details and Vision
Project Ethos was revealed in last year in conjunction with a public demo. Initially, the developers portrayed the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an innovative advancement on the style."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch explains. "Challenge the rivals with unique powers, challenges, and challenges that shift every round. Will you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Or go big, gamble everything, and pray your team can achieve the highest spot? The choice is yours."
The game does not have an announced launch window or consoles, but fans can anticipate further news as production advances.
